Setup Frigate network video management system

We install the Frigate network video recorder and management system with all requirements to connect it to MQTT and Home Assistant later on.

Setup initial Frigate configuration

Create a first working frigate config.

Add Reolink RLC-842A camera (cam-01)

We add a Reolink RLC-842A 8MP camera as cam-01.

Add credentials for Frigate

We need to add credentials for Frigate server to access our MQTT server.

Add firewall rules for VIDEO_LAN

We prohibit all devices on the VIDEO_LAN from communicating with the internet and other internal networks. Only the Frigate server is allowed to communicate with Home Assistant, MQTT and the outside world to update itself. And we connect Frigate with the DoorBird door station camera.

Install Linux kernel module for Coral TPMs with kernel 6.8

Due to changes in the new 6.8 kernel series which Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS uses the gasket-dkms package from the Google Coral repository doesn't install out of the box.

Install Ubuntu and Docker on Frigate server

Install Ubuntu to bare metal.

Add switch for network device testing desk

We add an Omada capable POE switch to our network device testing desk to allow testing multiple devices on different networks at the same time.

Change VIDEO_LAN DHCP settings

Change the DHCP settings of VIDEO_LAN.

Build hardware for Frigate server

We build a physical server to run frigate network video server with google Coral accelarion hardware.
